The Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP) is a large wastewater construction project that is symptomatic of Abu Dhabi’s growth. This is project by ADSSC is a huge gravity-driven hydraulic wastewater network designed to replace 35 existing pumping stations. The construction work includes 41 km of a deep sewer tunnel, 43 km of supply tunnels to transport the sewage to the treatment plants, and an underground pumping station at Al Wathba, with a pumping capacity of 30 cubic metres per second.
